Vehicle Recovery

The “V” Endorsement allows successful participants to work for hire or reward in the vehicle recovery service, which tows or recovers vehicles. You will need to start the application process prior to attending this:-  Our course is conducted as follows;

Pre-requisites

• Have held a full New Zealand Class 1 drivers licence for 2 years (Overseas licences are not permitted)

• Have completed a medical (your doctors’ usual fees will apply), and present it within 60 days of obtaining the medical or have lodged a medical with the NZTA within the last 5 years.
  
  
• Make an application for your V endorsement at an NZTA agent i.e. AA, VTNZ or VINZ using the DL20B application form:

This will start the process including the gaining of a police check.  If you have spent more than 12 months outside of NZ at any time you may need to gain a police and traffic report from the country(s) you have been in, and arrange to have this sent to NZTA in New Zealand (details are in NZTA Factsheet 46 for this).

Course Details

US24089 Worktime/ Fatigue/ Logbook

Theory training covering Fatigue Management, and the use of Driver Logbooks. Individuals then complete an activity and a written assessment. 8am – 12pm.
However if have previously completed this unit standard either in last 12 months and present a certificate as evidence that has been completed.  Alternatively if  the course was completed  over 12 months or more you must demonstrate that you know how to fill out a logbook correctly either 7 days of  success completed logbook or will be required to complete a written scenario. The rest of the course can be completed within a day.

​Sitting the practical driving test at VTNZ

As part of gaining your V endorsement, you must sit the class 1 (car) full licence practical driving test, unless you’ve already passed this test within the last five years. If you’ve booked a full licence test and can’t make the appointment, please go to www.nzta.govt.nz/online to change your test or go to your driver licensing agent. There may be another fee to change your test. ​

​Medical certificate requirements

You need to present a medical certificate for a V endorsement if:

• •you haven’t submitted a medical certificate for classes 2 to 5 or P, V, I or O endorsements in the last five years •
• you’ve developed a medical condition that could affect your ability to drive safely, or an existing condition has worsened
• you are required to by Waka Kotahi, regardless of when you last presented a medical certificate.

A medical certificate must be from a New Zealand-registered health practitioner and issued no more than 60 days before the date you apply. The health practitioner can be your usual doctor (GP), a registered nurse or nurse practitioner, or a specialist. ​
